Hotel George

It may have seen more glamourous days but this Habsburg era gem is still one of the top places to stay in town. The lofty halls teem with the ghosts of former guests, who in this case include such eminent fellows as Balzac, Liszt and Jean-Paul Sartre. The George boasts 75 rooms in all, divided into four classes, ranging from deluxe apartments to singles with shared bathrooms. Step out onto one of the city's most famous squares, which is adorned by a statue of the great Polish poet Adam Mickiewicz.

Travellers' Tips

Hotel George

"Full of atmosphere but desperately in need of a refurb! Breakfasts were rather good, service nothing to write home about but adequate. Has to be said that, with the shortage of hotels in Lviv (and the expense) that the George offers some of the best deals with its excellent location. But the 'faded grandeur' and primitive washing facilities might wear a bit thin after a few days."

"I had the opportunity of staying at the Hotel George for two nights. I found the staff very accomodating. The rooms, washrooms and showers were very clean and the breakfasts were tastey and ample. I would recommend it for service and location."

"It definitely has atmosphere, but one day could benefit from a major overhaul! The bedrooms could be improved!"
