Pidhirtsy Castle

|
Pidhirtsy (Podhorce) castle may be but a shadow of its former self - the last owners wisely jumped ship in 1939, and the interior was gutted by a fire in 1956. But even in its ravaged form this is still one of the glories of the region. The castle was a residence of the princely Sanguszko family for many generations. In more recent times Jerzy Hoffman filmed here for his smash historical epic, 'Potop' (The Deluge). The castle's setting at the crest of a valley makes this a good summer picnic option. The complex itself is gradually being renovated by Lviv's Gallery of Art. There are no direct buses from Lviv, so the best bet is to take a bus towards Brody, changing at Yaseniv village towards Zolochiv. |
