Ukrainian President Victor Yushchenko visited the Lviv football stadium site this week to see for himself the state of play of construction.
The visit comes a month after the EURO 2012 committee dashed city leaders' hopes that Lviv would host key final matches of the tournament. The decision not to consider the city in hosting the matches has been attributed to problems with the construction company that was awarded the contract to build the stadium, after it also secured the tender to renovate the city’s airport. As well, the committee said work in Kiev must progress before being awarded significant matches. | Source: Kiev Life | May.30.2009 |
